Day One
Welcome and introduce employee/intern/volunteer to department personnel.
Show employee to their desk area.
Show employee to kitchenette area, break room, closest restroom, copier, etc.
Discuss department mission, leadership philosophy, customer service policies, and performance guidelines.
Discuss normal work hours, building access and emergency procedures, phone and voicemail procedures, and purchasing instructions.
Take employee/intern/volunteer to lunch or arrange for coworker to accompany them.
Tour departments/offices/buildings they will visit frequently.
Review assignments for day one and field questions.
Provide an overview of assignments for week one.
Discuss your management and leadership style; inform them how to approach you
Week One
Hold a goal-setting meeting where you will also discuss performance review process and expectations.
Human Resources Checklist
Pre-Arrival
E-mail confirmation of conditional offer outlining pre-employment requirements: drug screening and background check.
E-mail new hire/intern/volunteer to review when, where, what to bring to appointment with Human Resources.
Send e-mail to Support to announce coming personnel.
Prepare entries in HR Connection and for weekly status notice spreadsheet.
Prepare personnel file.
During Benefits and Policy Orientation Meeting
Greet and welcome employee/intern/volunteer. Introduce person to other staff within Human Resources Department.
Provide welcome packet that includes information such as:
Benefits summaries and HR Connection log-on information
Employee Handbook and accompanying loose policies
Job description to keep and one to sign and remain within personnel file
Timekeeping instructions
Issue photo ID badge and set up card access levels.
