K-9 Unit

K-9 Rik is an 8 year old Belgian Malinois who was donated to the Office from the 3rd Special Forces Unit stationed out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Rik served with the unit in Afghanistan, utilizing his specialty explosives detection training to keep our military men and women safe. After completion of his service, Rik was retired out of the Military Working Dog Program.

Rik made his way to Blair County, where he works with his handler, Sergeant Justin Bennett. The pair are assigned to the Sheriff's Office Warrant Unit. Rik is trained in explosives detection, criminal apprehension, human tracking, and article searches. Rik is the only explosives detection canine in Blair County, making him a vital part of keeping our communities safe.

The K-9 Unit is funded solely by donations from the community. If you would like to donate, you can do so by contacting the Central PA Community Foundation via the information below. Thank you!
